Responsibilities :
- Coordinating and executing environmental planning projects related to aquatic ecology, technical and / or regulatory matters in accordance with approved work scopes and guidelines.
- Conducting Project Management and managing client and regulatory communications.
- Collaborating with clients to establish the scope of work and budget required to achieve project objectives and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Preparing reports : baseline site conditions (e.g. quantitative estimations, fish condition / diversity / age-class structure assessments or riparian habitat assessments), impact assessments, trend analysis, and environmental management or monitoring plans.
- Technical fieldwork : execution of field programs or development of field programs for use by other staff.
- Conducting Environmental Impact Assessments, conducting background research, and writing reports.
Qualifications :
- 8+ years of experience consulting in fisheries / aquatics and project management.
- Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio.) or other similar professional accreditation from another jurisdiction (or eligible for professional registration).
- Consulting skills : project management, client service, verbal and written communications, and business development skills.
- Demonstrates a combination of fisheries or aquatic ecology technical knowledge, including but not limited to the following consulting-relevant technical applications :
o strong expertise and demonstrated experience engaging with fisheries-related challenges across western Canada,
o Experience utilizing a variety of tools to evaluate fish presence and habitat quality, including :
- Field survey techniques,
- Statistical or other models,
- Desktop review and synthesis.
o experience deriving management conclusions from data (for example through statistical, narrative-based, or qualitative approaches), and
o a demonstrated commitment to evidence-based decision-making.
- Familiarity with environmental policies and regulations for development in BC, including the Water Sustainability Act, Riparian Areas Protection Regulation, Fisheries Act, and municipal and regional bylaws.
- Experience operationalizing the above skills around regulatory challenges in BC, particularly environmental impact assessments would be an asset, but is not required.
- Possesses good technical writing skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and excellent client service skills.
- Client networking skills are also considered an asset.
- There will be opportunities for work in remote and rugged field locations, hiking terrain for long distances with equipment, generally in Western Canada if the successful candidate is interested.
- Experience working with Indigenous Groups as clients and / or partners in environmental work is desirable.
- First aid training (ideal but will provide).
- Valid driver’s license.
