We are looking for a General Accountantat our Walker - Head Officelocation.
Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the incumbent supports the accuracy and integrity of general ledger data working closely with team members and operations staff. The incumbent inputs, verifies, accrues and analyzes detailed accounting information and prepares monthly HST remittances, Stats Canada reporting and other duties.
Responsibilities
- Prepares standard journal entries for month-end, quarter-end and year-end.
- Prepares monthly Corporate tax and HST / GST remittances as well as Stats Canada reporting and investigates significant variances to ensure accuracy of returns and avoid penalties.
- Provides financial analysis support to operations and construction teams.
- Prepares monthly sales reconciliations ensure coding and dollar values have imported correctly.
- Maintains fixed assets records; deletes / transfers assets, compares additions to budget and processes monthly depreciation to provide accurate fixed asset valuation at month end.
- Review account reconciliations and analysis.
- Collaborates with operations to identify opportunities for process and system improvements.
- Performs additional administrative duties such as filing, scanning, data entry, tracking expenses, account verification, coding and applying payments, and preparing documents.
- Reviews accounts payable for coding and tax accuracy, makes cost accrual entries to ensure accurate month end cut-off of expenses, and reconciles accounts payable subledgers and accrual balance to general ledger by making adjustments if required.
- Prepares year-end files for annual year-end financial audit and responds to audit efficiency in the process.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned, including those given by the Accounting Manager.

Minimum college diploma or university degree in Accounting or related discipline.
Experience
2 - 3 years relevant accounting experience. Advanced MS Excel Skills.
Certificates, Licenses or Registration
Enrolment in a professional accounting designation program such as CPA is encouraged.
