Aboutthe Role
The Recreation Programmer reports to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager / Recreation Manager or designate. The RecreationProgrammer supports the implementation and evaluation of activity programs tomeet the holistic needs and interests of persons served, while maintaining therights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.
Responsibilities
Include but not limited to;
- Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing andmaintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen theorganizational culture and purpose.
- Promotes, publicizes and carries out establishedrecreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events,entertainment, games.
- Assists residents and provide portering to and fromprograms as required
- Observes, documents and reports any changes inresidents to the supervisor and / or nurse.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through :
- accident prevention,
- knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
- the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and
- Utilizing infection control procedures
- Maintains appropriate documentation as per policy andprocedures, confidentiality and security.
- Actively participates in orientation of new staff,community programs, meetings, committees and educational in-services.
- Assistsin the maintenance of statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro,Point Click Care, etc.
- Assists with orientation of newresidents and encourages residents to participate or volunteer in their owncommunity.
- Provides guidance, assistance andsupport to volunteers.Assists in theevaluation of volunteers.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications andSkills :
Grade12 EducationGraduate from a recognized Activity / Recreation Certificate program.Previousexperience in a senior’s focused environment an asset.Dementiacourse an asset.Valid First Aid Level 1Certificate.Serving It Right Certificate.Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset.Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver’s License a requirement.All successful applicants mustpass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincialguidelines.Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.Good interpersonal andorganizational skills.West Coast Seniors Housing Management
