We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Emergency department at GR Baker Memorial Hospital.
Reporting to the Program manager of Critical Care and Surgery, the staff nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care and nursing practice activities within the framework of quality management and in accordance with the BCCNM Standards for Nursing practice and Northern Health Mission, Vision and Values statement.
The Northern Health Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) utilizes a standardized, evidence informed on-line curriculum offered by Elsevier, called Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO).
REDEP combines Elsevier's ENO online curriculum with a skills / simulation lab and clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent emergency nursing care, at a novice level.
Upon completion of the REDEP education, learners will transition into the Northern Health Critical Care Program- High Acuity Unit (NHCCP-HAU).
This education utilizes a standardized, evidence informed on-line curriculum offered by Elsevier, called Essentials in Critical Care Orientation (ECCO).
NHCCP-HAU combines Elsevier's ECCO- Progressive Care online curriculum with clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent within a High Acuity Unit, at a novice level
Applicable sites : Dawson Creek, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, Vanderhoof
- There are 4 training positions available for 2024 / 2025
- Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
- Successful candidates may be required complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position
- Learners should expect to make a 4 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
- Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, may be required to successfully complete the program
- Flexibility for practicums is necessary
- Prior experience on an acute care ward (i.e. medical / surgical) preferred
- Current BLS certification within a year is mandatory prior to the skills / simulation
- Preference for participants who have completed an electrocardiogram (ECG) course prior to beginning REDEP. (If needed participants can complete an Elsevier ECG module during theory)
- Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
- Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
- Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided
Shift Rotation / Hours of work : Monday to Friday, Days - 08 : 00 to 16 : 00
GR Baker Memorial Hospital is a full care hospital with 27 Acute Care beds, 4 ICU beds and 5 crisis stabilization beds.

Qualfications
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
Skills and Abilities :
