Introduction

This competition will be used to fill the position of Petroleum Inspector for the Department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade, and Natural Resources (EDITNR).

Oil and Gas is a team of engineers, geologist(s), auditor(s), technicians, inspectors and administrative staff that ensure compliance with the Oil and Gas Act and associated regulations.

Conditions of Employment :

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License.
  • May be required to travel by air, water, off road vehicles and foot to remote locations in harsh conditions.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all of the required position duties including : sitting and standing for prolonged periods;
  • prolonged walking outdoors and prolonged exposure to the elements; working in an active construction environment, which may require walking over uneven surfaces;

physically capable of loading and unloading field equipment such as off-road vehicles and boats.

Qualifications : Essential :

  • Post-secondary education in agriculture, natural resource management or other science disciplines (i.e. Engineering). An equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, including the monitoring of exploration and development activities, application of engineering, environmental and safety standards and practices as it relates specifically to the exploration, development, operation and production of oil and gas resources.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, analyze and execute assigned duties in a systematic and efficient manner under limited supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage potentially high conflict situations effectively.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with word processing software, email programs, spreadsheet applications and databases.
  • Strong problem-solving skill.
  • Experience with GPS and GIS applications.

Desired :

Experience in managing standard project budgets and expenditures.

Duties : The unit provides monitoring and enforcement of requirements under the Oil and Gas Act (the Act). The Petroleum Inspector (MI3) is responsible for the delivery of regulatory compliance and enforcement programs relating to the upstream oil and gas industry.

Conducts field inspections and approves technical programs and applications submitted by industry with respect to drilling, construction, production, operation, abandonment, decommissioning and reclamation of wells and facilities.
