What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep‑water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system.
- A 1.5 km‑long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM with a 10.15 m diameter slurry cutting face
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore)
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do
Reporting to the Scheduling Lead, the main duties are to assist in the preparation and updating of the pre‑construction and construction activities schedule, along with the updating of the design schedule.
Coordinate with the procurement and construction departments to identify the activities required to support the project executionCoordinate and identify scheduling conflicts and incompatibilities with the design and permitting scheduleProgressively baseline the pre‑construction and construction schedules of early worksPrepare and communicate the project’s weekly look‑ahead scheduleProvide analysis of alternativesAssist in the development, progression and maintenance of the works schedule of the pre‑construction activities (design, permitting, procurement) and construction activities in coordination with department and station schedulersPreparation of the Execution Phase Schedule
Verify and adjust the schedule based on the progress of the design and permitting activities and evolving contractual requirementsCommunicate and coordinate with project departments the necessary evolutions to the pre‑construction and construction schedule (Execution Phase Schedule)As progressively confirmed, perform the baseline of the early works schedulePrepare the Execution Phase Baseline ScheduleParticipate in risk management activities (identification of risks, incorporation of contingencies)Ensure the schedule is compliant with quality indicators and properly configured for baseliningProgress Tracking and Reporting
Perform weekly and monthly schedule updates in Primavera P6 with project departments and provide reporting of evolution and variancesPerform analysis of What‑If or alternative scenarios to support decision‑makingCoordinate with estimating, contract and cost control teams to ensure adequacy in project forecastsProvide 3‑week and 3‑month look‑ahead schedules of activities required to support the project schedulePrepare, develop and report on schedule KPIsIdentify and analyze risks and their potential impact on the scheduleOrganize and perform weekly schedule update and monthly reportingCollaboration and Communication
Work collaboratively with field managers to provide inputs, progress and mitigation plans when requiredContribute to overall program development by participating in group discussions and meetingsTasks will evolve to support project control needs and requirements of the projectsQualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Project or Construction Management, Engineering or related field2‑3 years experience in scheduling of design and construction projects1‑3 years scheduling experience with Primavera P6Ability to fully utilize Primavera P6Experience in developing logical sequencing of work, contract duration, phasingExperience in Schedule Analyzer, Microsoft Project and TILOS is a great assetProficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPointHighly organized and detail oriented with careful attention to accuracyMust be flexible and able to readily adapt to changing prioritiesMust be sensitive to time deadlines and ensure work is accomplished within required timeframesMust be able to work consistently at a fast pace and on multiple assignments concurrentlyBenefits
