The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s), invite applications for the position of Chair / Chief / Department Head of the Department of Medicine.
The is the largest department within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario. The Department has 270 full time members representing fifteen academic Divisions and is responsible for more than 30 million dollars in annual research expenditures. The Department engages in undergraduate and postgraduate medical training of approximately 200 trainees in London, Windsor and throughout Southwestern Ontario. Department researchers are active in both clinical and basic research at the hospitals and their affiliated research institutes, including the Lawson Health Research Institute and Robarts Research Institute. The Department has strategically focused on academic excellence in research through the creation of programs such as the Program of Experimental Medicine (POEM), centres of excellence in translational and patient-oriented research, as well in medical education and innovation. Many investigators are world-leaders in their respective fields of research.
LHSC and St. Joseph’s Hospital have a combined total of 2150 inpatient beds across their organizations, providing a full range of inpatient and ambulatory services to the city of London and surrounding Southwestern Ontario region, with active outpatient and community outreach programs in patient care, research and teaching.

The successful candidate must be an accomplished clinician with an MD or equivalent, be eligible to be certified as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and eligible for College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario registration for licensure in the Province of Ontario. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources : fee for service, alternate funding plan and academic support. An established track record of research productivity, leadership experience in research, and relevant educational qualifications would be an asset.
The successful candidate will hold a full-time continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The position will have an initial five-year term- normally renewable once and is subject to a mid-term review. Academic rank will be based on qualifications and experience.
