• Job Responsibilities :
• POSITION SUMMARY :
• The Automation Systems Technician contributes to the safe and efficient operation of equipment and machinery by accurately programming and changing Programmable Logic Controls and testing / repairing the electronic components as required.
• REQUIRED
• SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :
• 1. Completion of post-secondary education, and eligible for registration as a C.E.T., with three years of electrical experience. Experience with various PLC and Industrial controls systems.2. Familiar with PLC programming and implementation (Alan-Bradly / Siemens). 3. Safey Circuit design, program startup, verification and trouble shooting.4. HMI development and implementation (RsView, Panelview).5. Microsoft Computer Operating system setup and maintenance.6. AutoCAD, Office applications.7. Proven ability to interact well with co-workers (Electricians, Millwrights, Tool Makers, Operators), and promote the “Team” attitude to troubleshoot and restore production flow.8. • DUTIES :
• 1. Work independently and with minimal supervision.2. Plant support in troubleshooting / repairs and systems improvements (optimization).3. Specify and order safety components (e.g. light curtains, safety relays, safety I / O blocks for PLC’s).4. Keep current knowledge on PLC programming standards, robot safety, new safety components and materials, safety software for calculating reliability levels and other controls-related items.5. Establishes and follows-up full project implementation including timing, concept, feasibility, design, specifications, construction and commissioning.6. Plant support in testing, repairing, calibrating electric or electronic components.7. Maintains and upgrades all PLC related software : assist in training of staff on electronic equipment.8. Develops controls, and designs concepts.9. Computer programming, AutoCAD, Office applications10. Comes to work each day, as scheduled.11. Approaches each day and each challenge with a positive attitude.12. Conducts themselves in a professional manner when receiving or giving feedback / information, whether it is positive or constructive.13. Supports and models the Presstran operational procedures / policies, Employee Handbook and “How We Work Together”, Magna Employee’s Charter, Magna Corporate Constitution.14. Follows and complies with all operational procedures / policies as stated in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environmental programs (e.g.. ISO / IATF-16949).15. Required to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the OHSA.16. Follows and ensures the Company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout their assigned area. Takes pride in keeping their work area clean and tidy.17. Other duties as required.
• EQUIPMENT and / or PRODUCT FAMILIARITY :
• Equipment : Siemens S7 PLC’s, Allen-Bradley Control Logics 5000 PLC’s, Fanuc Robots.
• RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS :
• The automation systems technician carries out work orders / directives using written / graphic / verbal instructions provided by the maintenance supervisor. The automation systems technician also carries out requests by department supervisors on off-shifts where no maintenance supervisor is available. The automation systems technician requires good communication skills to exchange / collect information. The position may require the incumbent to work in confined / awkward positions with exposure to elements such as noise / temperature / heights.
