Database Administrator (L2)
Brampton - Hybrid (2-3 days from Office)
1. Database Operations & Maintenance
Perform day‑to‑day administration of SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL databases.
Monitor database performance, health, and availability using standard monitoring tools.
Handle operational activities including :
Database startup / shutdown
Instance refreshes
User and role management
Basic performance tuning
Support maintenance tasks such as :
Index rebuilds
Statistics updates
Log maintenance
Storage and space management
2. Backup & Recovery
Execute and manage scheduled backup and restore operations.
Support periodic recovery testing and assist in disaster recovery procedures.
Monitor backup jobs, troubleshoot failures, and ensure successful completion.
3. Incident & Problem Management
Respond to L2 incidents and service requests within established SLAs.
Troubleshoot issues related to :
Database performance
Connectivity
Failed jobs or scheduled tasks
Escalate unresolved or complex issues to L3 / Engineering teams.
4. Security & Compliance
Manage database security including :
Roles and permissions
Security policies
User access
Ensure compliance with data governance, audit requirements, and organizational security standards.
Apply patches, updates, and minor upgrades as per defined guidelines.
5. Deployment & Change Support
Assist application teams with :
Database deployments
DDL changes
Configuration modifications
Execute scripts and validate database changes in lower and production environments.
Participate in release cycles and scheduled maintenance activities.
6. Monitoring & Reporting
Configure and manage database monitoring alerts.
Generate reports for :
Capacity and storage utilization
Performance trends
Usage statistics
Identify optimization opportunities for improved performance and resource efficiency.
7. Documentation & Collaboration
Maintain up‑to‑date SOPs, architecture diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.
Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and network teams to resolve cross‑functional issues.
Technical Skills
2–5 years of experience in a Database Administrator (L2) role.
Hands‑on experience with at least one major database :
SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL.
Strong understanding of :
Database architecture and core concepts
Backup & recovery mechanisms
Indexing and query execution plans
Database security and role managemen
Familiarity with scripting using Shell or PowerShell.
Exposure to monitoring tools such as OEM, SolarWinds, Nagios, Datadog.
Basic knowledge of cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, etc.) — optional.
Preferred Skills
Experience with HADR technologies (Always On, RAC, Replication, Clustering).
Knowledge of basic performance tuning concepts.
Exposure to automation tools or DevOps practices.
