Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop training and support to employees on health and safety practices.
  • Monitor and analyze health and safety metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with site managers and other stakeholders to promote a culture of safety.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international health and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement ergonomic programs to reduce workplace injuries and improve employee comfort and productivity.
  • Ensure all sites have clear and accessible emergency egress routes and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure human and machine physical flow aligns with best-in-class H&S practices.
  • Oversee the safe operation and maintenance of equipment, ensuring all safety protocols are followed and equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.
  • Prepare and present reports on health and safety performance to senior management.
  • Collaborate with the Human Capital team in charge of employee case management to ensure optimal return-to-work practices, risk reduction and employee wellbeing.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health & safety, industrial relations, industrial engineering, or operations management.
  • Graduate degree in management or health & safety is an asset
  • 10+ years in health and safety in an operational industry, experience in the transportation industry is an asset.
  • Certification in health and safety is an asset (CRSP, CSP).
  • Detail oriented and strong ability to keep people accountable.
  • Strong leadership presence with ability to vision set and manage through influence.
