About this opportunity :
We're seeking a Data Science Specialist with a robust background in data science and machine learning. This role emphasizes teaching and mentorship, involving direct technical supervision of data scientists and informal advising across the organization. The ideal candidate should be experienced in the entire data science project lifecycle, from data collection and cleaning to model deployment and monitoring. They'll also be tasked with pioneering fresh applications of data science and machine learning, utilizing tools like Python, R, SQL, Spark (Databricks), and more. Passion for these technologies is a must.
Responsibilities :
Evangelize Data Science usage and benefits.
Contribute to the Cenovus data science community by hosting workshops and presenting on best practices and other topics. (COE)
Train and mentor students, new grads, and general staff to develop data science skills.
Stay abreast of new developments in the field of data science, continuous improvement and learning.
Play an advisory role in the organization by reviewing solution approach, strategy, methodology, code, architecture and other constituent parts of solutions.
Drive the research and development of AI-based models for data analysis across all verticals in Cenovus.
Coordinate and lead large scale data and ML projects across the enterprise, work with stakeholders to define project requirements, deliverables, and time frames.
Analyze complex, high-volume data from varying sources.
Apply big data tools on cloud enabled environments to access and integrate large datasets for sophisticated analysis.
Understand business performance as well as answer questions to drive product actions.
Partner with stake holders to translate problems into impactful metrics and visualizations.
Define and implement methodologies that accurately quantify the value of improvements.
Leverage industry best practices in establishing repeatable data science practices, principles & processes.
Accountable for the coordination, design, execution, and interpretation of analytical experiments in a methodological and repeatable way and support business decisions with ad hoc analysis as necessary.
Applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods to complex business problems, some examples of these methods are : machine learning, support vector machines, neural networks and others.
Accountable to define and implements statistical-learning or other mathematical methodologies as needed for specific models or analysis.
Solve key business problems including but not limited to data integration, predictive maintenance, subsurface analytics, process optimization, and time series forecasting.
Qualifications :
Master's degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or another technical field.
Phd in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or another technical field would be an asset.
Professional Engineering or Professional Geoscientist designation is an asset.
Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in advanced analytics or data science roles.
Oil and gas industry experience would be an asset.
