Here's the Scoop - Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for effectively planning and executing capital projects and implementing process improvements to support manufacturing goals and objectives including reducing costs, improving reliability, quality and / or safety.

The Project Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering and is based out of our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Acheson, AB.

What a Typical Day Looks Like :

  • Develops and implements capital and process improvement projects from $5K on up.
  • Develops, manages, creates, and executes capital projects including : creating documents, issuing PO's, creating scope, scheduling, contractor management, cost estimates and documents.
  • Involves and has open communication with stakeholders at all levels to gain alignment and support from a project’s inception through completion.
  • Effectively manage engineering and construction contractors.
  • Develops detailed scopes of work for planning and bid purposes.
  • Develops and executes contractor and supplier contracts.
  • Leads, facilitates, and coordinates cross-functional teams through the project process.
  • Supports Continuous Improvement Initiatives across the facilities.
  • Provides engineering and technical support to the operation to solve problems; assess critical information and apply logic and structured problem-solving techniques to make effective decisions or recommendations.
  • Ensures that throughout project stages, safety protocols are followed, as well as quality assurance and quality control standards are met.
  • Develops and follows equipment standards so that any future equipment needs meet all Safety and Food Safety requirements.
  • Identifies and initiates project and operational ideas to enhance plant systems and operations.
  • Identifies opportunities and sources new technology and equipment to increase manufacturing productivity.
  • Coordinates, and may conduct, training for plant personnel on new technology and equipment.

What Are We Looking For?

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in a technical field in manufacturing with a record of strong project management abilities.
  • Ability to generate drawings using AutoCAD and proficient with computers to generate spreadsheets, reports, and general correspondence.
  • Demonstrated competence with industrial control applications, such as Allen-Bradley PLC.
  • Some international travel may be necessary.

Working Conditions

Work environment is in pet food manufacturing center, with exposure to dust, noise, and fluctuating temperatures. Must be able to physically inspect company equipment, property, and assets.
