We have an excellent career opportunity with our Contract Surety team in Markham for a Senior Contract Surety Underwriter position.
As a Senior Contract Surety Underwriter you will be responsible for managing an existing assigned book of accounts, broker relationships, developing new business with key strategic brokers and accounts, while adhering to corporate underwriting standards and risk management controls.
What you'll do
Manage an existing surety book while ensuring adherence to Aviva’s Risk & Control Framework.
Be responsible for proper risk selection and underwriting of contract surety risks while maintaining, practicing and implementing Aviva Surety’s policies, guidelines, procedures and operating processes.
Work on establishing underwriting recommendations and decisions based on delegated authority to appropriate levels within the Aviva Surety business, including reinsurance.
Act as representative for the assigned book of business to internal and external stakeholders, including brokers, Head Office and senior Aviva management.
Take part in the development and implementation of marketing and business development plans within the assigned area of responsibility for better recognition of the surety department and the more expanded company.
Promote departmental strategic plans to targeted and existing brokers and contractors.
Maintain and enhance current surety relationships with key brokers and contractors.
Provide mentoring and underwriting support to the more junior underwriters.
Work closely with Leaders and provide input as required on all aspects of the operation.
What you'll bring
2+ years of relevant contract surety underwriting experience.
University degree in preferably commerce, economics, business, and / or accounting.
Clear and effective communication and interpersonal skills and a comfort level to communicate to all levels through written and oral skills.
Thorough knowledge of the issues and approaches to the surety industry and underwriting matters.
Broad knowledge of the accounting cycle, and construction related terms and processes.
Ability to provide technical and business-related assistance to other members of the department with emphasis on mentoring support to more junior members of the Surety Department.
Ability to tackle requests, situations and underwriting related issues and problems effectively and independently within the required timeliness while promoting and providing high levels of service to both internal and external customers.
