BC Cancer (BCC) is committed to reducing the incidence of cancer, reducing the mortality from cancer, and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer.

BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia in partnership with regional health authorities to deliver a range of cancer services, which include prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care.

It operates six regional cancer centres in Surrey, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Prince George, along with two research centres that conduct research into the causes and cures for cancer.

In these part-time positions, you will participate in the clinical, educational and research activities of the PSMPC Team in your centre.

There is some scope for protected research time if applicants have appropriate skills and interest. This engaging role involves addressing the palliative care needs of ambulant cancer patients, integrated with oncological management, including those in the survivorship context.

You will be accountable for facilitating a coordinated approach and ensuring continuity of palliative care support through effective communication and transfers back to community-level physicians, home care / palliative care services.

You will provide consultation and education to other BC Cancer care teams and community-based care providers as required, and support and engage in research and education interests in the area of palliative and supportive care.

Enhancing awareness and providing public and provider education on palliative care and symptom management for oncology patients rounds out your mandate.

As a fully licensed physician, you meet the requirements of the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as those of Medical Advisory Committee of the BC Cancer Agency and the Royal Jubilee Hospital.

Applicants from a CCFP background should have the Certificate of Added Competency in Palliative Care (CAC); and applicants with a Royal College background should have Palliative Medicine Subspecialty Accreditation or equivalent training and experience.

The positions vary from 1 to 3 days per week and may be combined for applicant(s) willing to travel. These positions can also be combined with part-time palliative care work in Vancouver Coastal or if desired, which we can help facilitate.

Successful candidates will have :
