The Opportunity :

WSP is seeking a Manager, Process Engineering to join our Resources division within the ERI (Energy, Resources, Industry) Sector! This position will lead a team of process engineers and technicians involved in various phases from Pre-FEED, FEED and through to detailed engineering across Central and Atlantic Canada. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of industrial and manufacturing projects including but not limited to mining, minerals processing, steel making & processing, chemical plants, biogas, battery manufacturing, food and beverages, and clean / renewable energy.

The Manager, Process Engineering reports to the Director, Resources (Central & Atlantic) and will be responsible for all process discipline resources. As part of the overall plan for the team, the Manager, Process Engineering will be responsible for growing the team in all regions and implementing a robust leadership structure with strong relations between regions that maximize collaboration within the group and across other WSP Business Lines. While not responsible for day-to-day design activities, you will be responsible for oversight of key process elements of projects, for supporting resources at a design level and for developing creative and cost-effective solutions to everyday design challenges. Additionally, you will also manage key client relations throughout the life cycle of engineering services. Your past experience should include process design knowledge of project work from conceptual design and studies through to project completion and management experience leading highly productive technical teams. Effective communication, technical quality, cost effectiveness, building and maintaining client relationships, and providing guidance to a team of engineers and designers are integral parts of this role.

This position will be located out of one of our Ontario offices located in Etobicoke (ideal), Thornhill, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Toronto or even Saskatoon, SK.

What you can expect to do here :

  • Oversee operation of the process team including technical resource management, design activities, financial performance, resourcing and design quality;
  • Lead, develop and empower a diverse group of professionals and technical support staff;
  • Take a leadership role in the expansion of business opportunities and execution of complex projects;
  • Manage and deliver complex design and solutions to customers - this includes report and proposal writing, business development, client liaison, and project management;
  • Build, lead, and manage multidisciplinary project teams focused on client specified requirements - projects may include planning, engineering design, construction, and financial management deliverables;
  • Interact with other disciplines, whether with this team or in other Business Lines; Make best use of WSP resources, either by supporting other Business Lines with resources or utilizing resources from other teams, when practical;
  • Maintain a strong Safety Focus including consideration of safety in design, construction and operations;
  • Build and maintain client relationships and respond to internal and external client requests;
  • Travel to various sites and offices to attend project, proposal and business development meetings, as required to support Business Line activities;
  • Oversight, and some direct involvement, in the following activities :
  • Preparation of process-related drawings and documents including PFDs, P&IDs, other process schematics, datasheets, technical reports / specifications, equipment general arrangement;

  • Perform engineering analysis / calculations, mass & energy balance, equipment, pressure safety / relief & control valves sizing conform to operational and regulatory standards;
  • Provide quality review and seal project documents and drawings;
  • Assistance with tendering packages, proposal development, and engineering estimates;
  • Build and maintain client relationships and respond to client requests;
  • Provide mentorship to junior colleagues / engineers;
  • What you'll bring to WSP :

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience in process engineering within a consulting environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, specifically in industrial chemical processing projects.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario, other provinces / states a benefit;
  • In-depth knowledge of heavy industrial processes, quality control, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record of managing complex engineering projects and driving process improvements in heavy industry.
  • Multi-disciplinary versatility; a dynamic, team-spirited, and quality-oriented approach; and a commitment to technical excellence are essential.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; French language an asset
  • Ability to think strategically and drive innovation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Occasional travel to heavy industrial sites and industry events expected.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of specialized process software including Aspen HYSYSÒ, Aspen PlusÒ, AFT Software Products, METSIMÒ;
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs, Bluebeam.
