CSPMA
Founded in 1988, the Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss Association (CSPMA) is a small association of horticultural peat moss producers responsible for approximately 90% of yearly extracted peat across Canada.
Internationally recognized for its valuable relationship with peatland researchers, it provides support and advocacy for its members and leadership in environmental and social stewardship and economic well-being related to the wise use of Peat and the responsible management of Canadian peatlands.
The CSPMA is focusing on the long-term vision of the industry, working closely with the provincial and federal government agencies as well as international bodies.

Job details
- Full-time
- Remote, preferably Eastern Canada Time Zone
- Travel : Some within Canada, the U.S., or abroad

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Work with the President to implement various projects and activities outlined in the Communications Action Plan
- Proactively outreach, engage, educate, and build relationships with various target audiences
- Engage in and manage communication crisis where the Peat industry is wrongly represented in the media or otherwise
- Implement and manage a permanent watch on what is written or said in the media or otherwise on Peat and Peat industry
- Work with the Team on the communication implementation aspects of projects related to peatlands and horticultural peat production
- Establish links between the various stakeholders and promote cooperation among all the industry players
- Write reports on the progress of the work and activities carried out
- Help articulate and communicate the results of projects and output from scientific research work to the target audiences, including translating science-based facts into tangible and usable outputs for the industry
- Respond to inquiries about the industry and organization
- Represent the industry on various working groups or at events
Education, Experience, and Personal Skills
Great emphasis is placed on the willingness to learn rapidly on-the-job. Knowledge or expertise in the following areas is a benefit, but not an absolute requirement :
- 3-5 years in a communications role
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including quick response times
- Excellent English speaking and writing skills
- Ability to problem-solve
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Communications coordination role for a national organization
- Proactive and reactive communications role for a national organization
- Working in a non-profit, education, or peatland science environment
- Peatland science knowledge and expertise (e.g. Ecological restoration)
- Understanding of the U.S. environment (media, legislative) (a strong asset)
- Working with governmental agencies at the Provincial and / or Federal level
- High level of creativity with content creation
- Familiarity with Canva, and / or similar graphic design / content creation tools
- Website management
- Developing and administering monthly / weekly newsletters
- Basic video editing ability
- Social media management
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Teams platforms
- Proficiency in French (a strong asset)
