Hydro Operator – Renewable Energy (British Columbia)
We are seeking a Hydro Operator to support the safe and efficient operation of a run-of-river hydro facility in British Columbia. This is a hands-on role that combines daily operations, maintenance, and stakeholder engagement, while also contributing to upgrades and future project development.
What You’ll Do
- Monitor and assess facility performance through daily checks, inspections, and annual reviews
- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on equipment and grounds
- Respond to operational issues in a timely manner
- Collect hydrometric, water quality, and meteorological data to support compliance
- Work with staff and service providers to maintain stream gauges and compile data
- Ensure environmental compliance through close collaboration with conservation authorities and regulators
- Submit reports on health, safety, environment, budget, production, and performance metrics
- Uphold all health, safety, and environmental standards while fostering a safe workplace
- Maintain strong relationships with landowners, regulators, and local stakeholders
- Support future upgrades and new hydro project construction as needed
What We’re Looking For
Minimum 5 years of operations experience in industrial or energy facilities (hydro experience preferred)Strong electrical wiring skills and mechanical troubleshooting abilityJourneyman Electrician, Millwright, or equivalent trade certification is an assetFamiliarity with run-of-river hydro operations considered a strong advantageExcellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to adapt to changing prioritiesStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projectsComfortable with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and technical reportingSelf-starter with high integrity, professionalism, and ability to work independently or as part of a teamJob Requirements
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Canada and the U.S.Legally entitled to work in CanadaAbility to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied outdoor conditions (hot, cold, wet)Willingness to work flexible schedules including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotationsCompletion of a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol screeningWhy This Role
