Position Title : Consultation / Liaison Officer 1 Year Contract Full Time (Jan. 2026 start)
Position Description : The Consultation / Liaison Officer will develop and maintain the Government mandated duty to consult with Fort William First Nation (FWFN), as well as facilitate any community consultation services required by the FWFN.
Major Responsibilities :
- Coordinate meetings, conferences and public speaking engagements in an effort to educate the community and raise awareness.
- Act as the point of contact and liaise between funders, proponents, and various other community and business organizations as well as the general public.
- Provide coordination for all aspects of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of special projects and programs.
- Participate and collaborate with other offices.
- Build and maintain positive relationships and contact with federal, provincial, and municipal departments as well as personnel, public officials, public and separate school representatives, the general public and community and business leaders.
- Prepare and present annual summary reports of activities and results.
- Work in coordination, via a series of meetings, with the Director of Economic Development, Economic Development Manager, and FWFN Chief and Council as a means of consultation with FWFN.
- Prepare business letters, newsletters, band council resolutions, work plans, budgets, recommendations, applications and other related paperwork.
- Other duties shall be assigned as required.
Specialized Knowledge :
Sound knowledge of Indigenous culture, governance, community perspectives, protocols and political dynamics gained from experience in direct dealings with Indigenous communities.Knowledge of multiple industry sectors and economic issues affecting First Nations and economic development, including but not limited to : infrastructure development, land management issues and economic development programs and services.Business Knowledge :
Sound knowledge of, and skills in, acquisition and management of contractual resources, budgeting and transfer payment accountability.Sound knowledge of community-based land use planning and other government science programming.Knowledge of economic development supports and programs delivered in Northern Ontario.Communication, Negotiation and Advisory Skills :
Demonstrated abilities in team leadership, negotiation, multi-party facilitation and consensus building.Proven political acuity and experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations on Indigenous, resource or economic issues.Established communication and presentation skills.Qualifications :
Minimum (3) years experience or a post-secondary school diploma in a business-related field, that would help in effective promotion on the duty to consult.Valid Class G Drivers License is required and have own vehicle.This position will be subject to a criminal records check.Salary : To be negotiated.
