The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is seeking a Professional Standards Senior Investigator to join our investigative team in the new Provincial Protective Services Branch.
In the fall of 2021, the Government of Saskatchewan announced peace officers, special constables and community safety officers embedded in multiple ministries would be brought together under a single provincial governance structure known as the Provincial Protective Services (PPS) Branch within the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.
The Opportunity
The Professional Standards Senior Investigator will be a progressive, forward-thinking professional with advanced knowledge and experience in the field of law enforcement and Code of Conduct investigations.
Reporting to the Director of Policy and Professional Standards for PPS Enforcement Support Services, this position is responsible for :
- Conducting and participating in formal investigations regarding public complaints, performance issues, and contravention of policies, procedures, and standards;
- Provide advice and expertise related to the application and interpretation of PPS policies and standards;
- Providing quality assurance, file review, guidance, and direction on criminal and provincial investigations;
- Tracking, maintaining, reporting, and updating CALEA accreditation records for PPS within the PowerDMS database;
- Assigning and monitoring tasks on PowerDMS and entering proofs for accreditation compliance;
- The creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Commissioner of PPS, on topics including but not limited to : bias free policing, pursuits, use of force, discipline, code of conduct and public complaints;
- Prepare and deliver training, including but not limited to, ethics, bias free policing, professionalism and harassment;
- Participate as a leadership team member furthering the branch, ministry and government-wide goals and objectives;
- Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with PPS Unit Commanders, teams and PPS Officers and employees; and
- Leading internal reporting processes to ensure transparency and accountability to Government of Saskatchewan and the public.

You will possess knowledge and skills in :
Law enforcement related techniques, policies, and reporting objectives;Investigational and Interview techniques related to criminal and code of conduct investigations;Government of Saskatchewan Corrective Discipline processes;Public Complaint Commission investigations;Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies CALEA accreditation;Policy development, evaluation, monitoring, continuous improvement, and change management practices / processes;PowerDMS policy management software;Various research methodologies, law enforcement challenges, philosophies, practices and trends (national and international); andCommunication, collaboration, negotiation, and relationship-building.Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would be obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related discipline with several years of law enforcement experience combined with several years of proven leadership experience within law enforcement or other regulatory environment.
