Job description

Reporting to Commanders, Paramedics carry out a range of duties in keeping with performance-based system design principles, safely meeting or exceeding response time standards, assessing, treating and transporting patients as per standards under the Ambulance Act; preparing and submitting reports; safely operating EMS vehicles and ensuring the stocking and safeguarding of vehicles, equipment, supplies and medications; and perform other related duties or tasks as assigned.

Casual Part-Time Paramedics must provide at least sixteen (16) shifts of availability per calendar month. At least eight (8) shifts must be on the weekend, and at least six (6) shifts on nights. Casual Part Time Paramedics are on a one (1) year or 2080-hour probationary period. Casual Part Time Paramedics must apply for a Full-Time position and selection will be based on Part Time Seniority. Assigned hours will be based on availability provided and staffing requirements.”

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Be qualified to work as an Advanced Care or Primary Care Paramedic in an ambulance in Ontario as required by the Ambulance Act and Regulations.
  • Be physically and mentally capable of performing all duties assigned and available for all shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (verbal and written) as required by the Ambulance Act and Regulations (Fluency in English is required).
  • Ability to multitask and be organized.

BASIC DUTIES :

Reporting to Commanders, Paramedics carry out a range of duties in keeping with performance-based system design principles.  The responsibilities include :

  • Safely meeting or exceeding response time standards.
  • Assessing and appropriately treating patients, ensuring the respect and integrity of patients.
  • Transporting patients to and from health care facilities.
  • Preparing and submitting paper and electronic reports.
  • Safely operating Paramedic Service vehicles and ensuring the stocking and safeguarding of vehicles, equipment, supplies and medications.
  • Performs community paramedicine duties when required.
  • Performs other related duties or tasks as assigned.

  • Current Driver’s Abstract
  • Current CPR Certification – Basic Life Support (HCP)
  • College Diploma or Letter of Good Standing
  • OPPAT Certificate
  • A-EMCA or Equivalency Letter (if applicable)
  • New Applicant Self Declaration Form
  • Employee Immunization and Communicable Report signed by a certified Health Care Provider

  • All of the above-noted documentation is required to be submitted to the HR department by March 17, 2025.

    As part of the recruitment process, applicants will be required to undergo pre-employment testing with a web-based Video Simulation Test. Upon offer of the role, successful applicants will be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check.

    The City of Cornwall offers a competitive salary starting at $41.52 per hour for Primary Care Paramedics and $44.45 per hour for Advanced Care Paramedics.
