Estimator / Designer - HVAC

JOB TITLE : Estimator / Designer - HVAC

WORK LOCATION : Montreal, QC

Permanent, full-time position

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Vice President - Engineering, the essential mandate of the estimator / designer is to support the sales team with accurate and detailed estimates / designs.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design air conditioning and heating systems
  • Be capable of performing an approximate load calculation
  • Knowledge of the new energy efficiency code
  • Be capable of creating a turnkey design for any type of building and providing an estimate
  • Review and annotate shop drawings
  • Conduct research on the feasibility, design, operation, and performance of mechanisms, components, and systems
  • Supervise technicians and technologists and review and approve designs, calculations, and cost estimates
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical drawings
  • Estimate and draft project proposals for ventilation, air conditioning, and heating
  • Produce coordination plans with the assistance of the drawing department
  • Prepare and review shop drawings for purchasing

Follow up on price requests with the purchasing department and suppliers

Be capable of anticipating and preparing options and equivalences when required

Assist the external sales department in responding to bids

Provide required information to sales team members

REQUIRED PROFILE

  • DEC in Building Mechanics or an engineering degree
  • Five (5) years of experience in a similar field
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and technical specifications
  • Knowledge of the BSDQ (Bureau des soumissions déposées du Québec) operating rules
  • Mastery of construction codes (Quebec / Canada) as well as applicable domain codes (ASHRAE, CSA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • Logical mind, meticulousness, and good methodology
  • Attention to detail, autonomy
  • Possess very good communication skills
