Job Description
An Geotechnical Instrumentation Technician for the Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel project is an interdisciplinary role in heavy civil engineering and geotechnical engineering. The primary responsibility of this field-office role is to assist the Senior Instrumentation Technician in installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting geo-structural instrumentation and monitoring systems used for the different construction faces of project. These systems measure and monitor various geotechnical and structural parameters in real-time, such as ground movements, deformations, stresses, loads, noise, and vibrations.
The specific job duties of a Geo-structural Instrumentation and Monitoring Technician may include :
- Conducting site visits to plan and determine the appropriate tools and equipment required for specific instrumentation installations and installing instrumentation and monitoring systems in accordance with project specifications and requirements.
- Perform Manual INC readings and download / record data and prepare factual reports, summaries, data sheets, or graphs to assist the instrumentation specialist with data interpretation linked to construction processes.
- Leading the field works for installing sensors, including strain gauges, tiltmeters, inclinometers, SAAV, MPBX, piezometers, and other monitoring devices and data acquisition systems.
- Providing technical support to the construction team
- Perform Manual readings and download / record data and prepare factual reports, summaries, data sheets, or graphs to assist the instrumentation specialist with data interpretation linked to construction processes.
- Communicating effectively with engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders on issues or works relating to monitoring and instrumentation and participating in site and staff planning and safety meetings.
- Help maintain databases of instrumentation records, calibration certificates of instruments and unit readouts, equipment manuals, and applicable standards.
- This position entails flexible working hours, including both day and night shifts, to fulfill the demands of city operations.
- Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all subcontractors, CA prime representatives, and stakeholders.
- Performing other related duties as required and maintaining a working knowledge of current instrumentation technology and trends in the industry.
- Executing diligently prescribed company technical procedures, safe work, environmental practices, and work plans.
Qualifications
We expect that the Civil / Geotechnical Technician has at least 2 years of experience working on heavy civil construction projects.Good understanding of construction procedures.Strong technical writing skills, and ability to present information concisely and clearly in reports.Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);An understanding of AutoCAD is an assetAbility to handle multi-tasking and maintain focus in a busy workplace.Good understanding of local Occupational and Health and Safety Policies and regulationsAbility to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.Must be available on occasion to work evenings, nights, and weekends to meet project needs.Ability to provide innovative solutions, problem-solve and tackle new assignments effectively and efficiently.Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.Additional Information
