Job Description

These positions are casual / on-call for short term assignments.

You must be available at least 3 days per week.

Assignments are in schools located across the TDSB.

  • Assist teacher(s) of the deaf by working with students (individually and in small groups);
  • Communicate in the preferred modality or language of the student for , ASL, PSE, Sign Support or Oral Communication
  • Assist in personal care and health needs of students with deaf / hard of hearing needs (, toileting, lifting and transferring, feeding, approved administration of medication – with training provided)
  • Assist the special education teacher(s) in developing self-advocacy skills for students to direct their own personal care and to foster independence
  • Assist the special education teachers(s) in addressing and meeting the physical safety needs of student(s), BMS techniques, behaviour shaping, prompting strategies, proximity control, etc.
  • Assist the special education teacher(s) in the academic instruction, as well as the delivery of alternative curriculum for students with deaf / hard of hearing needs
  • Assist the teacher(s) in the integration of these exceptional students into the regular classroom programs within the school and community, as appropriate
  • Provide student and class support to facilitate integration ( prompting) under the direction of the classroom teacher and the special education teacher in the regular and special education classrooms

Rate of pay :

Supply hourly rate : $

statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates

Temporary hourly rate after completing 30 days : $

Rate effective September 1, 2023

Schedule : up to 6 and 50 minutes per day between 8 : 00 am and 4 : 30 pm

Qualifications :

  • Two year Community College Diploma in related field (, ECE, DSW)
  • 3 months related experience working with students with language delays, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Fluency in sign language
  • Knowledge of Deaf Culture
  • Working at the Toronto District School Board
