Job description

PPM Civil Constructors, ULC (PPMCC) is a leading marine construction contractor delivering complex infrastructure projects throughout British Columbia and North America. Our work includes docks, wharves, jetties, breakwaters, outfalls, intakes, and floats, often performed in challenging and remote conditions. Role Description

Pacific Pile and Marine is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to support multiple active marine construction projects on Vancouver Island. This is a permanent, full-time position based primarily out of Nanaimo, with secondary work in the Lower Mainland.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Advisor will act as the primary safety resource for assigned projects, providing direct advisory support to superintendents, project managers, and field leadership. This role carries stop work authority and is focused on advising, coaching, and supporting operational teams to meet regulatory and company safety expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct health and safety advisory services to superintendents, project managers, site leadership, and employees.
  • Act as the primary health and safety resource for multiple concurrent marine construction projects.
  • Conduct regular site visits, including weekly presence on active project sites.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of PPM health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify workplace hazards and unsafe conditions, and recommend practical, compliant control measures.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, including documentation, reporting, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits, and track follow up actions to completion.
  • Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and field level training as required.
  • Support supervisors in understanding and meeting WorkSafeBC requirements
  • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and site documentation.
  • Exercise stop work authority when conditions present an immediate risk to workers.
  • Build strong working relationships with project teams and client representatives.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of health and safety experience in construction, heavy civil, or marine environments.
  • CRSP or CHSC designation is considered an asset.
  • Occupational Health and Safety certificate or degree considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience conducting site inspections, incident investigations, and safety training.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Sharepoint and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between project sites.
  • Successful completion of pre-access alcohol and drug testing as a condition of employment.
  • Work Schedule and Travel

  • Monday to Friday schedule, 40 hours per week.
  • Regular travel to Vancouver Island project sites required.
  • Occasional travel to the Lower Mainland as required by project needs.
  • Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range of $90,000 to $110,000 per year, based on experience.
