Unit Summary
The Pharmacy Department at the Juravinski Cancer Centre effectively manages drug therapy for positive patient outcomes and is committed to oncology pharmaceutical care. Patient focused health care empowers pharmacist participation in both retail and general oncology settings. Working toward integration with the primary care teams, this allows for maximization of the pharmacists clinical role and provides enhanced pharmacy technician roles in drug distribution.
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician processes prescriptions for the pharmacist to check before dispensing to the patient, assists the pharmacist by conducting technical functions in the pharmacy (including inventory control; drug purchasing for the retail pharmacy and other related functions), communicates with patients regarding their prescription needs and refers them to the pharmacist when necessary. In this role, the primary function of the pharmacy technician will be to provide support in the retail pharmacy, however the incumbent will be cross-trained to provide back-up support in the clinical pharmacy as may be required to meet patient needs.

Qualifications
1. Minimum of two years prior retail pharmacy experience (within the last 5 years)
2. Demonstrated proficiency in the Kroll Computer System
3. Demonstrated ability to interact with patients and members of the general public on issues of professional practice
4. Demonstrated effective communication skills (verbal and written)
5. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
6. Experience in Chemotherapy preparation an asset
7. Hospital pharmacy experience preferred
8. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail systems are an asset
