The vacancies are located in Esquimalt and Nanoose Bay / Nanaimo, British Columbia and Halifax, Nova Scotia and will require you to relocate if selected for an appointment, if you do not currently reside within commuting distance, please note :

1. Candidates who are not currently an employee of the Public Service and are not within 40 kms of Esquimalt and Nanoose Bay / Nanaimo, British Columbia and Halifax, Nova Scotia would be entitled to relocation assistance up to a maximum of $5,000 in accordance with the Addendum – Initial Appointees Relocation Program (IARP) : . Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill various English essential positions in Nanoose Bay (Nanaimo) and Esquimalt, British Columbia & in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This inventory may be used by the Department of National Defence to fill future vacancies with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, security requirements, and conditions of employment.

Occupational Certifications

Depending on the position being staffed, occupational certifications are required relevant to the position along with specific experience. Examples include, but are not limited to the following :

SO-FLP-04 / 05 Barge Master / Barge Engineer :

Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Fourth-class Engineer certificate, Motor Ship or higher with steam experience; OR Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Fourth-class Engineer certificate, Steamship; OR Valid Province of British Columbia Fourth-class Power Engineer Certificate or higher and STCW Basic Safety Training.

SO-FLP-06 Barge Master :

Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Third-class Engineer certificate, Motor Ship OR Steamship or higher; OR Valid Province of British Columbia Fourth-class Power Engineer Certificate or higher and STCW Basic Safety Training.

SO-MAO-Ship’s Engineer :

Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Fourth-class Engineer certificate, Motor Ship or higher.

Experience

• Experience in the field related to the position being staffed.
• Experience will be assessed in terms of the depth, breadth of activities, the complexity and diversity of work handled, relevancy of activities and transferability of the specific skillset required for the position.

Experience :

AE01- Watchkeeping or Command experience related to the position.

AE02-Experience operating towing vessels employed in coastal waters.

AE03-Experience in operating ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) tugs.

AE04-Experience in operating Voith-Schneider Tugs.

AE05-Experience in supervision in a marine environment.

AE06-Experience in towing barges, assisting with the berthing and un-berthing ships with or without a pilot.

AE07-Experience with deployment of pollution control equipment.

AE08-Experience working on a steam-operated barge

AE09-Experience working on a floating industrial plant

AE10-Experience in crane operations

AE11-Experience working or volunteering in a mixed public service and military environment.

AE12-Experience utilizing Department of National Defence (DND) Human Resource policies.

AE13-Experience working with a budget under the Federal Financial Administration Act (FFAA).
