Join Gerdau North America as a Safety Specialist in Whitby, Ontario. This role leads health & safety programs, accident investigations, and compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Lead facility health & safety efforts and program development.
- Maintain knowledge of all provincial and federal health & safety laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, injuries, and corporate reporting.
- Drive improvements based on key performance indicators (KPI).
- Act as a resource to the Joint Health & Safety Team to develop and maintain the internal audit system.
- Ensure an adequate industrial hygiene testing program is in place and remedial action is taken.
- Develop, revise, and update all health & safety policies and procedures.
- Manage and support Workplace Safety & Insurance Board claims and records.
- Facilitate accident / incident investigations and initiate corrective actions.
- Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies (City, MOL, MOE, Fire Department, etc.).
- Lead facility ergonomic program development and support health & safety training programs.
- Manage the contractor safety program.
Qualifications
Post‑secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.2‑6 years of experience in occupational health & safety management.Occupational Health & Safety Certificate is an asset.Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations and the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.Knowledge of WSIB processes and procedures.Experience with accident investigation, workplace inspection, and job hazard analysis is preferred.Willingness to actively participate in continuous professional development.Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of information and records.Service‑oriented, detail‑oriented, and capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.Salary & Benefits
Expected wage range $65,000‑85,000
/ year. This represents the expected hiring range and is inclusive of total compensation. The salary offered may be higher than the posted range depending on relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.Benefits include :
