Basic Function
Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. an HF Sinclair company, located in Mississauga, Ontario is seeking a permanent full-time Laboratory Technicians for the Quality Control Lab. This is a entry level position within the line of progression of the Laboratory according to the terms and conditions of the Laboratory performance-based progression program (PBP) and the collective agreement Reporting to the Laboratory Coordinator, the Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for the safe and accurate testing of lubricant and grease finished products and unit streams in accordance to our established Lubricant Management System (LMS) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The incumbent continually seeks greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace specifically in the laboratory setting in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it. With a responsibility to provide quality results, the incumbent does not take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, fixes it.
Job Duties
- Perform physical and analytical requirements in a consistent, accurate and safe manner
- Perform routine and periodic testing according to established Learning Management System (LMS) procedure and work instructions
- Conduct testing of certification tanks / blends and refinery stream samples
- Accurately record data on spreadsheets / books and into LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and SAP
- Perform quality checks, calibrations, understand statistical process control and control charting
- Troubleshoot analyzer malfunctions
- Review LMS and Work Instructions as required
- Participate in SWAP (Safe Work Attitude & Practices) program, perform observations
- Maintain good housekeeping standards
- Identify inventory and non-inventory items in need of replenishment or repair
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant analytical laboratory experience is mandatoryLaboratory instrumentation experience and knowledge is an assetEducation Level
Successfully completed a post-secondary degree or diploma in a Chemistry-related discipline

Work Conditions
Laboratory based within a refinery / manufacturing site. Required to work in Lubricants laboratory and refinery environment, warehouse / plant environment, and out of doors environment including but not limited to with chemicals, tank wagons, tank cars and tanksWork is fast paced and can be high stress as a result of the need to meet customer demands while maintaining ISO, TS and LMS requirementsThis is a unionized position with UNIFOR 593As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must progress to Lab Technician level 1 as per the terms of the collective agreementBenefits
Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, climbing up to 20ft, reaching or grasping, wearing personal protective equipment, advanced level of reading, writing, and performing math calculations, perceiving color differences, and effective communication with others. Must be physically able to climb stairs and industrial accesses (e.g. ladders, trucks) and lift up to 23Kg / 50lbs.
