Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd. (MEMS) is looking for a Vegetation and Wetlands Ecologist to provide support to the Environmental Sustainability Services (ESS) team. A minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in an ecologist role (vegetation or wetlands) or a similar capacity paired with a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Botany, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field, with specialized knowledge or experience in vegetation and wetland ecosystems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of wetland identification, classification, restoration, protection and reporting. They will also have a solid understanding of environmental regulations, guidelines, requirements, and standards. Please note this is a senior level position.
Key Responsibilities :
- Evaluate potential environmental constraints for proposed developments, focusing on wetlands, vegetation, listed species, and invasive species.
- Supervise and guide junior and intermediate staff during fieldwork and office tasks, ensuring compliance with industry standards and fostering professional growth through hands-on training.
- Author and review detailed reports for projects in sectors such as oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, and renewable energy.
- Analyze and interpret environmental data to deliver insights that meet project objectives and align with the defined scope.
- Assist in developing project proposals and budgets, ensuring they are accurate and aligned with client goals and expectations.
- Collaborate with project managers and directors on business development initiatives, strengthening client relationships and identifying new opportunities.
- Mentor Junior and Intermediate staff supporting their skill advancement and career progression.
- Liaise with clients, team members, and regulatory agencies to ensure effective project execution and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Advocate for corporate and client safety programs, fostering a culture of safety and regulatory adherence. Offer expert advice to clients across diverse sectors and projects in Western Canada, addressing regulatory requirements and promoting best management practices for vegetation and wetlands.

What you bring :
Experience in the execution and management of site assessments.A minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in an ecologist role (vegetation or wetlands) or a similar capacity paired with a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Botany, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization is required.Over 10 years of plant identification experience, with a focus on prairie, wetland, boreal, and / or arctic / tundra landscapes.Consulting experience preferred; relevant experience will be considered.Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol, fitness testing, etc.Proven experience in wetland mapping, classification, and conducting related fieldwork is crucial.Significant expertise in preparing and reviewing impact assessments, wetland permitting reports, and environmental documentation focused on vegetation and wetlands.Comprehensive understanding of provincial and federal regulations governing vegetation and wetland management, emphasizing compliance, guidelines, and best practices.Possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 drivers license.Other Knowledge and Skills :
Knowledge of reclamation certificate application process.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Experience driving, hauling a trailer, and operating an ATV.Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and be able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary setting.Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail.Willingness to travel.Excellent Safety Attitude.About MEMS
