THE JOB This is a full-time position supporting local blasting operations, offering hands-on training across all facets of the drilling and blasting trade. The successful candidate will work in a team-based environment, learning under the supervision of a blaster in charge while performing all duties safely and in strict compliance with blasting safety regulations.Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing blast site duties such as measuring, loading, and stemming blast holes; assisting with initiation hook-ups, site clean-up, product inventory, and securing blast sites. The role also involves assisting with blast design and drill pattern layout, becoming familiar with design and monitoring tools (including GPS, drones, boretracking, and profilers), and supporting blast site hazard assessments to ensure a safe work environment.The position requires active participation in safety toolbox talks and general safety meetings, ensuring all equipment—including vehicles used for explosives delivery—is maintained in safe working condition, and adhering to all applicable federal regulations (TDG, Explosives Act, Bulk Regulations, WHMIS) and provincial regulations (Blasting Safety and Occupational Health & Safety). Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate inventories of explosive and non-explosive products and ensuring company policies, safe work practices, hazard analyses, and standard operating procedures are consistently followed and kept up to date.environment and be a vital part of our operations team, we want to hear from you! Candidates must be willing to enroll with Apprenticeship Nova Scotia to obtain a Provincial Blasting License. Basic computer skills are required to create blasting logs and access online training. Applicants should demonstrate a positive, professional, and courteous attitude, be in good physical condition with the ability to repeatedly lift up to 25 kg, and hold a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s licence (Class 3 is considered an asset).
