POSITION : Signal Maintainer (Project & Relieving)

REPORTS TO : Supervisor Signals & Communications

DEPARTMENT : Rail Infrastructure

LOCATION : Cochrane

REFERENCE : 200-82E-26

RATE OF PAY : $30.74 per hour Apprentice Rate (with increases based on school)$40.33 per hour certified

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT :

The Signal Maintainer (Project and Relieving) is a permanent full-time position. This role performs a wide range of signal work across the system as and where required in addition to assisting with capital project support vacation illness and peak workloads.

MAJOR DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Construct maintain and repair designated signal equipment (track signal circuits) as assigned
  • Carry out scheduled system tests record results and maintain records as required
  • Assist in the installation removal or alteration of various signal appliances or their associated track circuitry as required
  • Respond to emergency repair situations during and after regular working hours sometimes on holidays and weekends
  • Be in good physical condition to perform job duties outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Responsible for assigned work equipment within their division

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :

  • Comprehensive Training and Signals Certification included invest in your growth with support every step of the way (Twoyear commitment required postcertification)
  • Applicants must demonstrate willingness to receive training as deemed necessary in the field of railway signaling
  • This is considered a safety-sensitive position; therefore applicants must pass Transport Canada mandated medical examinations including testing for color vision & hearing acuity
  • REQUIREMENTS :

  • Secondary School Diploma or GED
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a current certificate of training from a recognized Railway Signal Training course or those possessing a college / university diploma / degree in the electrical / electronic field
  • Strong aptitude for the electrical / electronic field
  • Applicants must be motivated self-starters capable of working alone or in a group
  • Must possess a valid Ontario drivers licence
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid passport and the ability to travel to the USA for training
  • Ability to travel 90% of the time including some overnight stays as required
  • Experience working in a railway environment is considered an asset
  • Ability to understand / pass Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) safety rules and any other rules deemed necessary by the company
