Job description

Introduction

The Government of Manitoba is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Director of Forestry and Peatlands within the Department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources. Qualifications : Essential :

  • Senior management experience with post-secondary degree in forestry, natural resource management, public administration, business administration, or a related field. A combination of equivalent education and experience in leadership and program management may be considered.
  • Extensive experience working with forestry and peatlands related programs and issues and related policies, legislation and regulations.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience successfully coordinating, fostering and developing multi-disciplinary teams to achieve desired outcomes through effective human resource management activities such as : recruitment, training, performance management and labour relations management.
  • Experience in strategic program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience engaging directly with Indigenous people, communities and / or organizations and demonstrated knowledge of related natural resource management issues.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaboration and partnerships with internal and external clients and stakeholders.
  • Superior written communication skills, including the ability to advise in plain language on technical issues and develop politically sensitive material for senior leaders.
  • Superior verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with and present to all levels of the organization, as well as external stakeholders.
  • Excellent political acumen including experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex and sensitive issues.
  • Experience developing, administering and enforcing legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines.
  • Financial management and budgetary experience.
  • Duties : Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Natural Resource Stewardship, the Director of Forestry and Peatlands is responsible for program planning and implementation, financial management, and human resource management for the Forestry Branch, including forestry staff across the province. The Director of Forestry and Peatlands is responsible for the development, implementation and enforcement of Manitoba's forestry and peatlands resource policies, guidelines, legislation and associated regulations.
