About the Role :

Reporting to the Director, SW Regional Cancer Services, Inpatient Oncology, CMH and Stem Cell, Physician assistants (PAs) collaborate with physicians to deliver healthcare services, operating under the guidance of a physician. The PA in Malignant Hematology primarily supports the care of lymphoma, myeloma and leukemia patients undergoing treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and / or radiation, as well as symptom management. The PA may occasionally support routine care of stem cell transplant recipients or conduct outpatient visits by performing patient histories and physical examinations. The PA may perform procedures such as bone marrow aspirates / biopsies with adequate additional training and provider approval. On the inpatient unit, rounds are completed with the attending, hospitalists, and residents, who can then leave for educational sessions, allowing the PA to manage medical care, adjust orders and perform the traditional duties of a hospitalist with malignant hematology specialization. Attending and supervising physicians are always available for support and case review. Working with their supervising physician, PAs can be trained to acquire new skills that are deemed necessary for the physician's area of practice. PAs may engage in educational activities, research, and administrative tasks as delegated.
