The Customs Clerk will work closely with the Customs Manager, reporting directly to the Director of Operations. They will ensure that all aspects of import and export activities are conducted in accordance with the rules and regulatory requirements of Canadian Customs, the Department of Commerce, and other applicable governmental agencies.
The goal of this position is to serve as the secondary point of contact for customs brokers and assist with the completion of timely and accurate customs clearance processes.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS & OBJECTIVES
- Canada Customs Brokerage :
- Support B2 corrections with Customs and the brokerage team.
- Coordinate with CBSA for Customs audit cases and ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain and foster professional relationships with Customs through effective communication and collaboration.
- Update and manage the HS codes for all SUNPAN items in SAP.
- Provide required documents to Customs brokers, track shipments, and ensure timely Customs clearance to avoid demurrage charges.
- Review and file paperwork from Customs brokers, ensuring accuracy in Customs clearances.
- Audit import entries and brokerage invoices to identify and correct discrepancies.
- Support all other activities related to Canadian Customs processes.
- US Customs Brokerage :
- Prepare and submit required documentation for US Customs clearance.
- Manage paperwork for both Northbound and Southbound bonded shipments.
- Review and confirm US Customs billing invoices for accuracy.
- Provide US HS codes to brokers to facilitate Customs processes.
- Assist with all additional US Customs-related tasks.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Diploma in International Trade, Business, or a related field.Minimum 2 years of experience in a Customs brokerage environment.Advanced knowledge of import / export processes and regulations.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.Proficiency in MS Office applications, with intermediate to advanced skills.Familiarity with CARM (CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management).
