Dr. Carla Hilario, Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing, is hiring a Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) to support data collection for a study examining how inter-ethnic relationships are performed and experienced in the settlement sector.
With guidance from the PI (Dr. Hilario) and the Research Coordinator, the GAA will support participant recruitment, data collection via focus groups, and data analysis
ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS :
Dr. Hilario’s research lab is a highly collaborative team whose values center on transparency, inclusion, diversity, and equity;
we are committed to composing a team comprising diverse lived experiences and backgrounds. This position reports to the Research Coordinator and PI.
This position interacts with research team members, faculty, community organizations, health professionals, other stakeholder groups.
Regular research team meetings will be held with the aim of ensuring all members are kept updated on progress and to identify potential challenges and difficulties.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE :
- Distribute participant recruitment materials according to the study protocols
- Communicate with prospective participants about the study, and manage participant registration
- Set up remote consent using the Qualtrics platform
- Tailor and refine project materials as needed such as recruitment materials, information letters, etc.
- Conduct virtual focus groups with study participants
- Manage data storage and organization
- Review and prepare transcripts for analysis
- Assist with qualitative data analysis using Nvivo software
- Assist in implementing other related study activities as needed
- Liaise with the Research Coordinator and Principal Investigator regularly
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Graduate student in Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Health Sciences, or a related field
- Experience with participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis processes in qualitative research
- Experience conducting research focus groups
- Experience using Qualtrics and Zoom videoconferencing technology
- Some familiarity with topics related to newcomer experiences, settlement, and / or inter-ethnic relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using Nvivo software a benefit but not required
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
- Ability to work within regulations and guidelines governing research
- Ability to work well under pressure, multitask, time manage and re-prioritize tasks
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR / IMPACT OF DECISIONS :
This position requires self-direction and the working effectively within an organizational structure. This position entails a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
The exercise of poor judgment and lack of consultation with supervisors could result in serious financial, reputational, or legal consequences for the PI and university and adversely affect the viability and validity of future research programs.
Failure to maintain research and program information in confidence could result in damage to credibility and poor relations with internal and external stakeholders.
SUPERVISION :
Works under general supervision in carrying out familiar phases of duties and responsibilities; receives instructions during orientation and on subsequent new assignments or changes in procedures.
Works under general direction within established policies, procedures, and standards. Work reviewed against task objectives and conformity to standards.
