We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced and reliable individuals interested in joining our team as a Casual School Bus Driver. This role is ideal for individuals looking for flexible work, as you will be called upon to cover shifts as needed, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Safely operate a school bus along designated routes.
  • Ensure students’ safety and well-being while on the bus.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle.
  • Maintain communication with school staff and parents as required.
  • Ensure adherence to traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Report any mechanical issues or incidents in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean and safe bus environment.

Requirements :

  • Driver’s license with a clear driving record and ability to pass a background check.
  • A good medical record with no heart conditions.
  • Experience driving buses or large vehicles is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, patient demeanor with children.
  • Flexibility to work on a casual, on-call basis.
  • Ability to remain calm and handle challenging situations when necessary.
  • Selected candidates will be required to complete a 5-day District training course and provide a clean criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, driver’s abstract, vision test, written test, and road test. To operate a school bus, a Class 2BE driver’s license is required. If you do not currently hold a Class 2BE license, the training provided will assist you in obtaining one. Upon receiving the Class 2BE license, we offer paid behind-the-wheel training and reimbursement for most licensing costs. The date for the next training course has not yet been determined but is expected to occur in the spring of 2025.

    The names of successful applicants, once trained, will be placed on a replacement driver list, and may be called to work on an as-required basis.

    School bus drivers typically work a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon (Monday-Friday). Drivers do not work on weekends, statutory holidays, summer break, Christmas break, March break & snow days, however, extra hours may be available if desired (school field trips, after school events, weekend sport tournaments, etc.).

    Employment with Anglophone North offers :

  • 4-hour minimum call-in
  • Typically, the same model of bus (automatic transmission)
  • Potential to park the bus at your home, or a nearby depot
  • An average day consists of a morning shift and an afternoon shift
