The Opportunity
Directly reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the AVP, Development and Infrastructure is responsible for directing the technology operations, including systems analysis, development, programming, and administration, and for liaising with all users, to enable all departments within Farm Mutual Re to meet long term and ongoing business goals of the company. Working with other members of the leadership team, the incumbent participates in the development of short- and long-term business planning, and for developing and executing technology objectives to support the business and strategical direction of the organization. The role is hybrid and may involve some travel.
As the successful candidate, you will :
- Work with the leadership team to create strategic goals and tactical objectives by monitoring trends, identifying changes in the environment, and balancing department requirements to ensure alignment between the company’s technology strategy and its business objectives.
- Create, implement, maintain, and monitor efficient and effective policies, standards, guidelines, processes, and procedures to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Conduct workforce planning through recruitment, selection and placement, training and development, performance management, and promotions and transfers.
- Chair and lead the Technology Steering Committee – a cross-functional group that provides strategic oversight and decision-making for technology initiatives.
- Manage the allocation of development and infrastructure resources and budgets to prioritize projects based on business value.
- Develop reports, highlighting objectives achieved, deliverables obtained, and performance targets met, and report to the Board and external partners as required.
Your Skills and Qualifications
You have a Post Secondary degree, preferably in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or another related field or a related discipline.You have a minimum of 8 years of work experience in software and infrastructure, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.You possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to develop deep-rooted relationships, influence change and exhibit a collaborative leadership style.You have experience leading technical teams. which includes providing formal training, professional development and evaluation of othersYou have deep knowledge and expertise in software development and infrastructure, and ideally an understanding of insurance operations.You have experience in Agile methodologies, focused on leveraging a build-measure-learn approach to deliver on technology initiatives.You have strong problem solving, research, quantitative skills, and knowledge of multiple platforms, architectures, and tools to deliver successful technology projects.What’s in it for you?
