What is the opportunity?

As Managing Counsel, you will lead RBC's team responsible for securities-related litigation, regulatory enforcement, and internal investigations in Canada and the Caribbean. With your team, you will be instrumental in the resolution of actual and potential disputes, regulatory inquiries and proceedings, domestic and multi-jurisdictional class actions, certain employment matters, complex arbitrations and commercial litigation, and sensitive regulatory and internal investigations.

What will you do?

  • Lead the Canadian Securities Litigation team; delegate matters as appropriate and provide ongoing supervision, coaching, and guidance
  • Provide substantive and strategic advice for the resolution of actual and potential disputes, regulatory enforcement matters, and internal investigations for RBC's Capital Markets, Wealth Management, and Personal Savings & Investments businesses in Canada
  • Provide litigation reporting to various legal entity boards and line of business operating committees, as well as internally within Law Group
  • Collaborate closely with internal business and functional partners, and direct external counsel in the management of litigation, regulatory matters, and investigations
  • Identify and implement strategies to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness in the management of disputes, including by analyzing and streamlining internal processes where appropriate and negotiating innovative Alternative Fee Arrangements with external counsel

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 10+ years' experience in litigation, especially securities litigation and enforcement, broker-dealer disputes, and class actions
  • LLB or equivalent, and a lawyer qualified to practice in a Canadian jurisdiction
  • Effective and persuasive written and oral communication skills; ability to persuade and influence senior executives and business partners
  • Ability to prioritize competing matters effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to weigh legal risks and business objectives and offer good practical judgment and
  • Experience managing complex internal and regulatory investigations
  • Nice-to-have

  • Fluency in French
  • Experience managing legal professionals
  • Prior in-house and / or regulatory experience
