Expand your security expertise as a Corporate Security Advisor with the City of Edmonton!
As the Corporate Security Advisor you will provide professional security direction and consultation to civic management to enable departments to effectively establish and administer cost effective protection programs. In this role you will work alongside a diverse team of security experts with a strong sense of ethics and integrity, while deploying best practices that are prevalent in the security industry today.
What will you do?
- Provide VIP Executive Protection
- Provide professional consultation, establish and develop policy & procedures to all City of Edmonton Departments
- Identify threats, determining countermeasures and making recommendations to reduce vulnerability
- Perform security inspections and audits on City of Edmonton facilities
- Evaluate and recommend security systems
- Investigate incidents of theft, fraud, vandalism and other criminal and non-criminal incidents against City property or employees from both internal and external sources
- Increase safety and security awareness through the development and delivery of training sessions
- Maintain a contact list to keep ahead of emerging trends
- Build relationships and work closely with clients to find proactive and innovative solutions to reduce the number and severity of incidents
- Perform other related duties
Qualifications
Certificate or Diploma in security management, law enforcement and / or criminology from a recognized post secondary instituteA minimum of five (5) years of multi-disciplined security experience including experience at the supervisory level with emphasis on Closed Circuit Television and Card Access Systems. Combinations of education and experience may be consideredDemonstrated or existing eligibility for a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation is a requirementExperience in conducting physical security surveys and audits as well as physical security planning, i.e. card access, alarm system design and specifications and a sound knowledge of digital video surveillance systemsAssets
Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) designationsExperience with the Google platformSkills required for success
Demonstrated skills in facilitation of groups on delivering security awareness seminarsIn-depth knowledge of criminal law and of legislation respecting property access, access to information and Human Rights enactmentActive knowledge of contract law, civil and criminal liabilities, risk management and basic and corporate financial controlsExcellent communication (written, verbal and presentation), interpersonal, political acumen skills requiredDemonstrated ability to assess risks and make sound judgments while adapting and responding proactively to changing circumstancesDemonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated mannerAbility to adapt to a shifting schedule environmentApplicants may be testedAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership CompetenciesEmbracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionConditions of Employment
Possession of a valid Security Services and Investigators License including Executive ProtectionPossession of a VIP Executive Protection certificate and prior experience. Note : A large portion of the work for this position will be performing VIP Executive Protection dutiesValid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent); obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this positionMust arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insuranceHire is dependent upon a clear Enhanced Security Clearance that includes a Vulnerable Sector Search satisfactory to the City of EdmontonWork Environment

36.9 hours per week. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program. On call as required.
