POSTING DETAILS

Position - Payroll Supervisor

Start Date - As soon as possible

Duration - Continuing

Schedule - Monday to Friday, 8 : 00am to 3 : 30pm

Location - Langley School Board Office

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensures the accurate and timely preparation of all payrolls and manual cheques in compliance with contractual and government guidelines.

Maintains the integrity of the payroll databases through monitoring while ensuring compliance with established procedures and internal controls.

Supervises payroll employees including planning, organizing, assigning, scheduling, and coordinating of work.

Calculates and monitors vacation schedules and vacation pay entitlements.

Inputs and retrieves data including those related to new employees, changes in employee status, hours worked, etc.

Calculates and balances payrolls to control figures.

Performs functions necessary to run payrolls, including editing and balancing batches, running payroll processing programs, updating payroll system history, system backups and Electronic Funds Transfer.

Reconciles general ledger accounts to payroll records and prepares remittances to Revenue Canada, benefit carriers, pension plans, unions, etc.

Answers inquiries from staff and the public by letter, telephone or in person, and relays messages as required.

Maintains effective working relationships between individual payroll employees and between payroll and other staff.

Verifies and / or provides information related to employment status and earnings for external agencies such as I.C.B.C., financial institutions, Revenue Canada and other school districts.

Prepares various reports on a periodic and annual basis such as pension reports, seniority lists, T- 4 slips, WCB reports, etc.

Calculates adjustments to statutory benefits for persons on multiple payrolls. Prints, bursts and distributes pay statements, cheques and reports.

Assists with District budget preparation including calculation of salary and benefit costs. Files and maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential materials.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Grade 12 graduation plus completion of the Payroll Management Certificate Program (Level III) or equivalent.

Three year's related experience on a computerized payroll system.

Ability to supervise payroll employees.

Proficiency and speed in the use of calculators and a good aptitude for figures.

Ability to work with constant interruptions and the necessity to meet deadlines.

Ability to maintain close attention to detail for periods of sustained duration.

Ability to communicate effectively using tact, discretion and diplomacy in contacts of a difficult or specialized nature.

Ability to interpret, analyze and use judgement in the application and modification of methods and procedures.

Good working knowledge of legislation and regulation relative to payroll including Employment Standards, EI, CPP, WCB, income tax, employee benefit plans and collective agreements.

Advanced knowledge of computers.

Physical ability to perform the required duties.
