Materials Technology Field Technician – Co-Op

We are seeking out hard-working and motivated individuals to join our Materials Technology team at our Peterborough location. You will join a team of enthusiastic and dedicated technicians while operating under the supervision and mentorship of our civil and geotechnical engineering professionals.

This is a co-op position, but based on your experience, technical certifications and performance, GHD hopes that this position will develop into a returning placement, extend a longer duration or even as full-time position, dependent upon availability and seasonal demands.

The position will encompass :

Completion of Quality Assurance and Quality Control materials testing services on-site for various construction projects within Peterborough and the surrounding areas.
Conducting compaction testing during site grading and backfilling operations, including sampling soil and aggregates for laboratory analysis.
Concrete and asphalt sampling and testing for various building and infrastructure projects.
Support field staff in investigative work including concrete coring, specialized testing, test pit investigations, and site data collection.

Skills & Qualifications :

Preference for enrollment in, or graduating from, a civil, geotechnical, or engineering program. Other relevant education and industry work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Strong interpersonal and customer service communication skills.

The capacity and willingness to learn new skills and testing procedures.

Access to a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license to carry out daily site inspections.

Expectations :

Competent with the use of Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS Word and MS Excel.

Ability to lift and carry 23.7 kg (50

Willingness to work a regular 40-hour work week and possible overtime up to a limit of 13 hours total per day.

Willingness to travel up to 200 km per day using personal vehicle.

Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Compensation :

Hourly compensation at market rates.

Reimbursement per kilometer for the use of your personal vehicle at rates adhering to schedule by the Canadian Revenue Agency.
