Halifax Regional Police is looking for individuals who have a passion for volunteering with seniors and a desire to make a difference in our community. The HRP Seniors' Home Safety Program (SHSP) volunteers provide safety presentations directly to seniors or anyone interested in learning about senior safety, and also attend public information-sharing events throughout HRM. The purpose of the service is to reduce the risk of frauds & scams, accidents, injuries and victimization of seniors in their homes.

Qualifications:

• Aged 55+, mature, responsible, reliable
• Available during daytime hours Monday to Friday, with occasion weekend or evening engagement
• Pass a robust HRP security clearance
• Confidence in public speaking with high-volume voice
• Commit to an average of 10 hours per month
• Computer experience
• Active email account
• Ability to transport presentation materials of approximately 10 pounds
• Experience in emergency services, health and safety or education considered as asset

Location: Based out of HRP East Division, 7 Mellor Ave, Dartmouth, with travel in personal vehicle to various HRM locations.

Security Clearance Requirements: Selected candidates will need to complete thebackground & security clearance process. You will be given a security & background booklet to complete and return to Human Resources. The results of the Background & Security screening are confidential and only a pass or fail result is released to Human Resources. You will be thoroughly investigated to determine your suitability to meet security clearance requirements. Your references and previous employers may be contacted, and family and friends may be contacted and/or visited during this stage.
