The Biomanufacturing Hub Network (BioHubNet) is an immersive talent development program aimed at producing industry-ready, highly qualified personnel (HQP) in the biomanufacturing sector through comprehensive training initiatives with deep industry engagement.
BioHubNet has been recently awarded $18.9 million in federal funding. BioHubNet is committed to delivering state-of-the-art training crucial for Canada’s future in biomanufacturing and pandemic preparedness.
It offers tailored training programs drawing on the collective expertise of academia, industry, hospitals, and not-for-profit organizations.
The core of the BioHubNet model is industry-led and industry-relevant credentialled training to meet the skills needed in the biomanufacturing sector combined with experiential learning through internships and residencies.
BioHubNet will provide training to a diverse range of HQP, including clinical associates, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, technicians, focusing on three key thematic areas : ENGAGE microcredential courses;
EXPERIENCE experiential learning; EQUIP entrepreneurial training, all of which will be pursued with attention to EQUITABLE opportunities.
Through BioHubNet’s training, HQP will be better equipped for careers in biomanufacturing and the life sciences ecosystem more generally.
Your opportunity :
Under the guidance and leadership of the Scientific Director of BioHubNet and PRiME, with input from the co-Directors, the Director of BioHubNet is responsible for strategic, operational and programming leadership of BioHubNet.
As the senior executive of this initiative, the incumbent has a pivotal leadership role in shaping the growth and direction of the BioHubNet to achieve its global ambitions.
An especially critical responsibility is developing and executing on the strategic plan and overall strategy to ensure sustainability of BioHubNet during and beyond its funding period.
This will require the incumbent to build key external and internal partnerships and counterparts in the not-for-profit and private sectors.
The incumbent also provides advice to the Scientific Director, and collaborates with Faculty leadership, professors and senior staff in the academic divisions and research institutes and in relevant U of T portfolios.
The Director of BioHubNet will work closely with the Director, Strategy and Partnerships at PRiME to take advantage of each others skills and network for the collective success of both, including shared resources.
Qualifications Required :
Education :
Post Graduate Degree in molecular or cellular biology, precision medicine, pharmacy or pharmacology, biomedical or chemical engineering or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
Project management, business, and / or financial management certificate or an acceptable combination of education and experience. A PhD is highly desirable.
Experience :
A minimum of 8 years experience working within an academic setting with related experience in strategy development and implementation of academic and research programs.
Experience in post-secondary teaching and curriculum design, program development and delivery, relationship management is required.
Significant experience in leading and managing a large and diverse team. Experience in business development, evaluating business opportunities and preparing proposals and negotiating contracts is required.
Experience in a senior administrative role managing complex relationships, preferably in a University environment or other large organization, is also desirable.
Skills :
Proven ability assessing opportunities in a variety of science and technical disciplines; excellent research, analytical, negotiation, partnership development, project management, organizational and interpersonal skills;
excellent oral and written communication skills; creative problem solving and decision making; mentorship abilities. Computer competency with knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and word processing applications.
- Demonstrated skills in instructional program development, pedagogy and delivery; Creative curriculum design; Problem solving;
- Skilled at managing a team, team-building, resolving conflict, event planning and oversight, and providing clear direction;
Ability to manage a diverse and challenging work load; Ability to provide feedback to staff; Skill and sensitivity in working with diverse groups of people.
Other :
Ability to work at the highest strategic levels, to gain and maintain the respect of senior administration and also to take strategy and move it through to tactics and action.
Ability to deal with senior University Officers and external stakeholders in a manner which facilitates cooperation and consensus building.
Ability to be comfortable, credible and persuasive within academic, government or business environments; ability to initiate, build and nurture academic and research partnerships.
Demonstrated effective leadership, motivational and planning abilities. Excellent political acuity, tact, judgment and discretion.
Ability to interpret and evaluate policy and procedural requirements. Must be highly self-motivated and sustain a high degree of initiative.
Must be a talented and fluent writer, able to concisely summarize information and provide a rationale for action. Must be able to identify and understand emerging issues as well as set and manage priorities.
