The Gerry & Nancy Pencer Brain Tumor Centre at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, is seeking a compassionate and dynamic individual to join our team as Nurse Coordinator. As Canada’s largest multi-disciplinary brain tumor centre, we are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art medical treatment, enhanced supportive care, and education to patients and their families.

Position Overview

You will play a pivotal role in coordinating patient-related aspects at The Gerry & Nancy Pencer Brain Tumor Centre. Serving as a liaison with referring physicians and institutions, the incumbent will lead program planning efforts to optimize resource utilization, ensuring individual patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource for patients, families, and referring institutions, offering support and counseling as needed.
  • Coordinate and actively participate in weekly CNS Multidisciplinary Rounds.
  • Provide support and orientation to staff joining the Pencer Tumor Centre program.
  • Coordinate patient and caregiver support groups and other supportive care initiatives.
  • Oversee the updating and maintenance of patient educational materials and programs.
  • Lead the Pencer Centre Patient & Family Advisory Committee, organizing meetings and related activities.
  • Facilitate patient access to brain tumor-related support services within the community.
  • Actively participate in fundraising activities for The Pencer Centre.
  • Review past and current supportive care services, revitalizing programs post-pandemic with consideration for virtual technology options and patient preferences.
  • Regular administrative duties include payroll approval bi-weekly, annual performance review of Pencer Centre Administrative Assistant and Rehabilitation Consultant.
  • Provide ongoing support to the development of the weekly Adolescent & Young Adult (AYA) clinic in The Pencer Centre.
  • Facilitate patient access to specialized treatments and enrollment in relevant programs.
  • Engage and provide expertise to other organizations in the brain tumor community nationally and internationally.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required, Masters preferred.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Experience in Brain Tumors and / or Acquired Brain Injury rehabilitation required.
  • Proven abilities in quality improvement and project management.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-directed with exceptional leadership abilities.
  • Expert organizational skills with flexibility in managing priorities.
  • Experience in palliative care or with patients with degenerative conditions preferred.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity, patient-centered orientation, and excellent communication skills.
  • Interest and experience in qualitative research an asset.
