Corporate Accountant – Tax Focus
The Corporate Accountant – Tax Focus is responsible for supporting the TOPPAN’ Packaging Americas’ corporate, sales, and payroll tax compliance and reporting requirements across Canada. This role plays a key part in preparing tax provisions, performing detailed reconciliations, supporting audits, and ensuring timely and accurate tax filings. The role also contributes to broader accounting processes such as month-end close, treasury deposits, pension reconciliations, and benefits accounting.
What You’ll Be Doing
Corporate and Indirect Tax Compliance
- Prepare annual corporate income tax provisions, including schedules for contributions, goodwill, intangibles, lease commitments, and non-deductible reserves
- Maintain and reconcile corporate tax rollforwards, true-ups, and trial balances
- Complete annual and monthly corporate tax return schedules (C3i Tax Credit, T106s, intercompany detail, fixed assets, revenue allocation, etc.)
- Support internal and external audit requests
- Calculate and record monthly and annual tax journal entries and adjustments in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) and Excel
- Review and process monthly GST/QST filings and ensure timely payment
- Manage corporate tax installments and NR4 filings, ensuring compliance with CRA and Revenue Québec requirements
- Perform sales tax reconciliations/rollforwards and submit monthly remittances.
- Conduct tax recovery and adjustment analyses related to utilities, leases, waste, and other recoverable items across applicable systems
- Support annual transfer pricing documentation and related intercompany reporting
Financial Reporting & Reconciliation
- Perform monthly reconciliations for corporate tax, pension accounts, and payroll-related accruals
- Assist with month-end closing activities including intercompany reconciliations
- Prepare and review tax-related trial balances and supporting working papers for external review
- Reconcile pension-related accounts and perform annual pension plan true-ups (SERP, VCRSP)
- Maintain documentation and audit support for all tax and related balance sheet accounts
Treasury and Payroll Support
- Prepare and post monthly payroll and benefits accruals, including workers’ compensation reconciliations
- Allocate benefits premiums and record accrual reversals and reallocations
Regulatory Filings and Compliance
- Complete Statistics Canada filings and other required government reports
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax regulations and maintain proper record retention
Tools and Systems
- ERP Systems: Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Software: Excel (advanced proficiency required), Microsoft D365 (a plus)
- External Platforms: CRA and Revenue Québec portals
This is a remote position but candidate MUST be located in the Mississauga, ON Canada Area.
We’d Love To Hear From You If
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation or working toward CPA preferred
- 3+ years of experience in corporate accounting, with a strong emphasis on tax compliance and reporting
- Strong understanding of Canadian corporate income tax, GST/HST/QST, and payroll tax
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred)
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines
- Strong communication and organizational skills
