Morrison Hershfield Limited is looking for an intermediate Fire Protection Engineer / Consultant in our Markham office. This role will be focused on the delivery of various fire protection projects, including design of sprinkler, special suppression, and fire alarm systems; Fire Code analyses, Fire Hazard Assessments, and system testing / commissioning.
A passion to continue to learn and excellent communication skills are required. The successful candidate will work in a team environment, working closely with both junior and senior staff to deliver projects, and will have the opportunity to deal directly with clients for proposals and delivery of projects.
The position will involve the application fire and life safety principles to fire protection systems design projects as well as the assessment of existing fire protection systems. The position requires the ability to assess conditions of existing systems, analyze performance and Code conformance, prepare written reports with cost estimates, complete design calculations for fire protection systems, complete drawings and specifications, undertake site review and verification of systems, and advise clients on recommended fire protection system features.
In addition to fire protection design, the position may also involve the application of provincial and national building and fire codes, standards, and best practice guidelines related to the storage, use and handling of hazardous materials.
Although not mandatory, knowledge in the fundamental principles of fire dynamics, behavior of materials in fire, and human behavior in fire is desired.
