Truck & Transport Mechanic

The Truck & Transport Mechanics are responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repair of 300 plus units, including automobiles, emergency vehicles, public transport, public utility vehicles, light / heavy trucks, and construction equipment.
Employees work under the leadership of the Fleet Maintenance Chargehand but are allowed considerable latitude for independent judgement in applying knowledge and skills to the diagnosis and repair of assigned equipment.
This position offers a monthly tool allowance as well as a tool replacement program. The City agrees to replace broken or worn out tools during the course of employment.
A tool allowance is provided monthly to each employee for the purchase of new tooling.
Mandatory Qualifications & Experience :
- Grade 12, , , or Mature High School Diploma;
- Inter-provincial (Red Seal) Journeyperson Truck and Transport Mechanic certification;
- Possess a valid and subsisting Class 3 with Air endorsement Province of Manitoba driver’s license or able to obtain within three (3) months of appointment;
- Hold a Manitoba Vehicle Inspection number for all vehicles excluding motor homes, automobiles and motorcycles, or able to obtain within three (3) months of appointment;
- Hold an Emergency First Aid certificate, or able to obtain within three (3) months.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience :
Hold a valid MOPIA Environmental ODS certificate.

Position Conditions :
This full-time, permanent position of 40 hours per week will be offered in accordance with conditions identified in the Collective Agreement between the City of Brandon and CUPE Local 69
