Job Brief

We are currently seeking a Manager of Corporate Projects and Initiatives to lead the design, implementation, and reporting of corporate and community initiatives to successful resolution.

Permanent, Full-time; 75 hours bi-weekly)

We are currently seeking a Manager of Corporate Projects and Initiatives to lead the design, implementation, and reporting of corporate and community initiatives to successful resolution. The Opportunity :

Reporting to the Director of People and Partner Services, you will oversee the implementation of a wide variety of community and corporate initiatives from conception to completion. You will initiate and lead new projects of all sizes, some independently as well as guiding cross functional project teams. The Manager will collaborate with key stakeholders on improvements required for successful strategic implementation of initiatives that address a variety of corporate issues which support the City’s overall strategic direction and City Council’s strategic goals. This will include thorough research & analysis of current needs and issues at hand as well as knowledge of best practices and emerging trends to implement successful actions. As a forward-thinker, a key aspect of your role will be to identify potential barriers to successful strategy and project implementation and bring identified issues forward with consideration for potential solutions. You will engage and consult with the Executive Leadership Team, City Council, and staff to obtain information, positions, and direction on issues and potential opportunities.

As our top candidate, your advanced project management and facilitation skills combined with your ability to collaborate both internally and with community partners with be essential. Your successful strategic leadership skills will be leveraged to provide direction and oversight to project teams, stakeholder groups, and external consultants. You’ll also need your seasoned political acumen to navigate issues, confidential information, and political sensitivities with finesse. On an as-needed basis, you will also be called on by City Council and Council committees for support and guidance.

Your Professional Skillset and Experience :

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field, complemented by : 15+ years’ progressive experience in government-related organizationsExtensive knowledge of municipal government operations and servicesOther combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Successful, seasoned leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide
  • Advanced ability to conceptualize and design projects, with skill to move them through to successful completion
  • Comfort and agility to deliver results under challenging time constraints and changing environments
  • Successful relationship and team building skills that are collaborative, supportive, and responsive, with : Senior management, elected officials and other levels of governmentInternal stakeholder groups; the public; consultants; representatives of various industries
  • Seasoned political acumen to safeguard and work on a wide range of politically sensitive and complex issues which may not have defined policies, objectives and principles
  • Success managing complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders in support of unique or cross-functional issues or programs
  • Knowledge of business practices including planning and performance measurement concepts, preferably in a municipal government environment Ability to think and plan strategically, with an understanding of short, medium, and long-term corporate goals that include : The ability to identify required resources and manage multiple projects and teams of a complex and diverse natureStrong research and problem-solving skills, with ability to tackle problems that do not have established processes, standards or protocolAdvanced organizational skills
  • Successful engagement and facilitation skills across broad audiences, complemented by strong verbal, written, and presentation skills

Additional Requirements :

  • The successful incumbent will be required to use their personal vehicle to travel throughout the City, and must maintain appropriate insurance coverage for this purpose
  • The successful incumbent may be required to work beyond regular working hours and on weekends
