Position Summary
The KCHC Program Support (PS) supports facilitation of a positive, safe and engaging learning environment for youth. Working directly to support programs within the Youth Services portfolio, they are on-site predominantly during after-school programming hours. The PS works within a programming team guided by the Team Lead of Student Experience and Manager of Youth Services. Responsibilities include ongoing communication, regular meetings with staff, working directly with students as assigned, contributing to program quality improvement, and set up / monitoring of programming spaces. As directed by their lead or manager the PS will facilitate programs based on the needs of the program. Success in this position is achieved through knowledge of youth engagement strategies, expertise in building relationships, strong knowledge of risk management, deep understanding of different learning styles and the needs of students facing barriers and challenges in a culturally and linguistically diverse, low-income communities.
Key Responsibilities
Programming Activities
- Co-facilitate under the direction of the team lead or manager of youth services with programming activities and routines to support student development
- Implement inclusive program materials and practices, keeping in mind the diversity and needs of all groups
- Create a positive, safe and focused learning environment at each program site
- Report any incidents or issues involving students, volunteers or facilities to the appropriate staff
- Problem solves difficulties and celebrate successes with students, tutors and staff
- Conduct on site safety checks and walkabout, as scheduled and as needed
- Maintain attendance sheets, logs / monitoring sheets and resources as needed
Communications & Resources
Keep updated on positive youth engagement strategies and trauma responsive relationship building approachesHelp Organize spaces, routines, materials and data collection at each programming siteContribute to nightly staff communication on how to strengthen student participationMeet with staff as needed on strategies for improving student participationEncourage cooperation sharing community space and security of resourcesParticipate within the programming team, led by Team Lead Student Experience and ManagerPrepare recommendations for program improvements through reports or researchEffectively communicates with staff, volunteers, and learners electronicallySite Support & Safety
Open and set up program rooms at site locationsProduce and maintain attendance sheets, logs / monitoring sheets and resourcesSupport security and caretaking routines specific to the site locationCollect program related items for secure storage on site, assisting with any return items to proper storage areasSupervise students leaving the building promptly and safely at end of programmingEnsure volunteers and staff have left the building by arranged closing hoursOrganizational Responsibilities

Relevant post-secondary college or university degree requiredMinimum of two plus years’ experience working with high school youthExperience facilitating and engaging youth development programsExperience applying equity practices and working with diverse groups of peopleKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
Training / experience with diverse learners or new language learnersKnowledge of secondary school culture and challenges youth faceExcellent oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basisExcellent organizational skills and above average attention to detail.Excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to being a “team player”.Experience working in the fields of youth worker, teacher, child and youth practitioner, or social service worker considered an assetOther Requirements
Availability for regular evening hoursValid driver’s license and valid insurance, access to a vehicle, preferredCurrent and satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerable Persons Check
