Role Description

We are looking for a full-time Senior Backend Engineer who is eager to take on a challenging yet rewarding role in a high-growth software startup.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about engineering high-performance production mobile apps at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of our backend systems, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
• Build, test, and deploy robust backend services, prioritizing user data security, reliability, and optimal functionality.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to ensure seamless integration of backend services with the mobile application.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Optimize and maintain the backend infrastructure to support high-traffic and data-intensive operations.

Qualifications

Here’s a snapshot of what we're seeking :

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in software development, with a strong portfolio of successful full-stack or mobile projects.
• Expertise in our tech backend tech stack : Google Cloud Platform, Docker, PostgreSQL Firebase.
• Proficiency in developing backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, and deploying on cloud infrastructure using best practices in CI / CD.
• Demonstrated experience in working with external APIs and managing complex dependencies.
• A proven track record in maintaining high software quality, with a focus on test coverage, deployment pipelines, and effective logging.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, ownership of projects, and a commitment to delivering high-quality software.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with the NestJS backend framework
• Experience deploying professional-grade Flutter / Dart apps on Android and iOS
• Interest or prior experience in sports betting platforms and / or iGaming tech.
• Interest or prior experience in digital payments, bitcoin, and / or Lightning Network infrastructure.

Compensation

The compensation for this role includes equity options and basic health benefits.

Base salary range : $120,000 - $180,000 CAD / year

Equity options range : $30,000 - $80,000 CAD / year

US employees will have their compensation adjusted based on the relative cost of talent in their region.
